"Looking out across the vista of the prairie doesn't tell the whole story. It is comprised of a diversity of plants. I walk to alienate and focus on this clump of grass. The lines, contrasts, hues, values, and complexities of this prairie microcosm help me understand its beauty both as a solitary entity and a contributor to the bigger ecosystem. I found the vibrancy and texture both delicate and hardy. I had to move quickly against the wind and its relentless efforts to move the stems and heads while capturing this disorganized grouping." After completing an MFA in Texas, she taught public school and college before moving to Oklahoma to pursue art full-time. Living near the Flint Hills, she travels there often for plein-air painting. Her work has been exhibited regionally, nationally, and in private collections.
