Lead Butterfly
Description
Into The Light by Jantzen Peake Large Butterfly - 45" H, 62" Wingspan “I was inspired to this design from a dream I had, where I was a scuba diver trying to escape from a huge Octopus… and the only way out was a hole in the ice. The hole in the ice with rays of light shining through is symbolic of my life searching for the light of success in a dark world.” Why FLIGHT? “I want to inspire the community through the arts. I want to help in raising awareness and funding to ensure children receive essential arts programs. Art is being taken out of schools because of lack of funding. I want to be a part of a community of artists that puts the Arts back into the schools.” Jantzen was born in 1981 and raised in Hermosa Beach, California. He began drawing at the early age of 5 and was inspired by the way drawings could move in cartoons. In middle school he brought the prehistoric world of dinosaurs and invention to life in the form of clay sculptures. This is when he realized how art could allow the mind to escape. In his teen years, Jantzen’s art continued to progress when he started taking art classes and influenced by artists like Albrecht Durer, Tim Burton, Ed Roth, Ralph Steadman and Salvador Dali. Jantzen received his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Studio Arts with an emphasis in illustration and Painting from California State University Long Beach in 2010. Shortly after graduation he began teaching K-5 after school art programs and working in freelance design under his company, “Peake Graffix.” From there he had his first successful solo art exhibition in his hometown of Hermosa Beach CA. Soon after he landed an art space in the annual Redondo Beach California, Frontier Days Arts Festival where he got to meet and sell a Linoleum print edition to Chester Bennington, the former lead singer of Linkin Park. Jantzen’s work of art has also been exhibited throughout Los Angeles California, and all along the Front Range of Colorado. A resident of Colorado Springs, he is highly involved in the local art community and non-profits like, Concrete Couch and Project Angel Heart. Jantzen’s artwork has also been featured in a published book titled, LA-ARTIST. He hopes to bring a new light into the art community leaving a piece of his soul in every art piece he creates.
